The homeowner was referred to Marshall Exteriors by HomeAdvisor. He went to HomeAdvisor looking to enclose the deck on the back of his home.
One of the Marshall Exteriors estimators, Anthony went to the home to talk with the homeowner. It was during this meeting that Anthony discovered that the homeowner had a vision of what he was looking for and Anthony wasn’t the best person to help him. An appointment for Adam to visit the home was set for the following week. It was not Anthony’s intention to put the homeowner's project off but he really wanted to make sure that the Homeowner’s needs were met. Adam, meet with Marc, the homeowner. Marc described what he wanted to see out his back door and Adam picked up on it up immediately. Marc wanted a space that he could enjoy through most of the year during most types of weather. The space that was there currently was a large deck. Adam worked with Marc to design a roof over the deck that would both meet the needs and the budget. So, after ordering materials the project was put on the production calendar and when the time came, the crew got to work. The crew, led by Bill, began by precisely cutting into the existing deck to set four new 6x5 posts approx. 12 feet from the back of the house. These posts were set in concrete at least 42” into the ground. The crew them removed siding at an appropriate height where a ledger board was installed with structural bolts. As an added measure a second ledger board was installed with structural boards to add to the support to what would be a new roof. Rafters were installed and covered with OSB sheathing. Because adding a roof to an existing roof can cause some water flow issues a cricket was built to allow adequate flow. A matching 3 tab shingle was expertly installed by the roofing crew led by Josh. The roof lines were adequately flashed with new aluminum. Vinyl soffit and aluminum fascia were installed and the new roof was ready for the new gutters and downspouts that were installed by Tim’s crew. The open gable areas were siding to match the existing color of the home. Once completed it looked like the roof over the deck was always there!
